Whenever the network marketing industry comes under scrutiny you will find literally thousands of articles and so-called reviews on the internet. With many individual network marketing (MLM) companies, the automatic reaction is always, “is this a scam” or does it really work.  Of course, the Usana Business Opportunity is not immune to this…

This reaction is understandable up to a point either because there are plenty of scams being marketed on the internet or some of the people who haven’t quite made it with their network marketing endeavors feel the need to complain online.

Most network marketers who have a presence online perhaps with a blog or replicated website supplied by the network marketing company will naturally paint as healthy a picture as possible in an attempt to make sales of products or recruit new distributors to their team. Others may attempt to create as damning an image of the company as possible because they have failed miserably when they tried to build their independent network marketing business.

When it comes to this critical scrutiny Usana is no exception and you will find plenty of conflicting views. So what are the facts about Usana?

Usana is a large and very well run network marketing company that markets its health and nutritional products through a worldwide network of independent distributors. Apart from being successful, it is also highly regarded especially in its home state of Utah mainly due to its community work, charity work, and employment opportunities. Their products which are of a high quality cover health and fitness, weight and diet management, personal hygiene, and hair care.

You will find few if any complaints about the actual quality of the products. These products are expensive however and given that health and fitness is a fiercely competitive market the price may make it difficult for network marketers within Usana to grow their business.

With Usana you have to buy the products at wholesale and then sell them at retail. This means, as business owners, each distributor needs to have developed a sound business plan, financial forecast and budget before investing in wholesale products. There needs to be strong indicators that the products will be sold on and a profit made.

Each distributor has the same two basic opportunities to earn an income with Usana as with many of the major MLM companies. By far the better way to make money for all network marketers is to recruit other people and build strong teams of independent distributors. The more people you can recruit the greater the potential to make serious money. The other way is by marketing and selling the products for which commissions should be paid.

All multi level marketing companies typically set up similar systems where a very strong emphasis is made on recruitment and building teams or down lines. This is totally understandable and sound business practice from their standpoint. The more people who are recruited to sell product and/or recruit more people, the more money the network company is going to make. So, why should Usana be any different in this regard?

Usana has a well thought out binary compensation plan. This means that each independent distributor must maintain two separate legs in their down line if they wish to make any commissions. While all the marketing done by Usana suggests that a great deal of money can be made (and they have the proof to show it can), this does not really represent the full picture across the board. As with any network marketing business, some distributors are going to be hugely successful while others are not. Those at the top will definitely benefit while new distributors may struggle a bit.

All in all, Usana is a sound and highly successful MLM company and it represents a good business opportunity with which you sell products and build a team of people or down lines. This enables you to earn an income for both your own efforts and theirs.
